System & Metode A/S is a Danish software company founded in 1989 and built on a simple belief: Technology should empower people - not replace them.

A history of continuous modernization

Since the 1990s, we have developed the capabilities businesses were missing on IBM i. It began with BlueNote and BlueSeries.

BlueNote made it possible to monitor systems, jobs, and events, allowing problems to be identified and addressed before they affected operations. BlueSeries kept business communications running through technologies including fax, email, FTP, XML invoicing, and SMS messaging.

As the need for modernization grew in the 2000s, we built a bridge between existing IBM i systems and the modern, web-based world.

IceBreak brought web applications, APIs, and service-oriented architecture directly to IBM i. IceCap transformed traditional 5250 screens into modern, browser-based user interfaces. All without middleware, external application servers, or extensive replacement projects.

In 2009, we opened our own hosting center. This meant that the same team developing the software could also take responsibility for the underlying operations and infrastructure.

Today, IceBreak, IceCap, BlueSeries, and BlueNote are used by hundreds of companies worldwide. At the same time, the four proven products have evolved into the high-performance engines that power Sitemule - our complete modernization ecosystem running natively on IBM i. Our hosting solution has undergone the same transformation and is now brought together under Sitemule Cloud.

Nothing our customers depend on is going away. IceBreak, IceCap, BlueSeries, and BlueNote will continue to be available for installation and use as standalone products. They will continue to be maintained and supported, exactly as customers know them today.

What we do

Our focus is on helping companies move forward without losing the strength of their existing applications, processes, and business logic. Instead of replacing proven systems, we help companies unlock new value from their existing RPG, COBOL, and CL applications. The principle is simple:

Web applications and services. The IceBreak engine makes it possible to develop modern web applications, APIs, and services directly on IBM i. Existing RPG and COBOL programs can become part of a service-oriented architecture without middleware, external servers, or a complete rewrite of the applications.

Modern user interfaces. The IceCap engine transforms traditional 5250 screens into responsive, browser-based applications. Existing screens can be modernized visually and functionally, combined in new ways, and incorporated into seamless workflows - without replacing the underlying business logic.

Business communications. The BlueSeries engine brings business communications together directly on IBM i. It supports email, SMS, FTP, fax, XML invoicing, document exchange, and more, allowing business applications to communicate with customers, partners, and other systems through the appropriate channels.

Monitoring and operational reliability. The BlueNote engine monitors jobs, message queues, subsystems, and system events in real time. The solution can issue alerts, initiate automated actions, and support rapid recovery when problems occur. BlueNote also helps keep the entire Sitemule platform stable and available.

Managed hosting. Sitemule Cloud provides secure and scalable hosting for IBM i environments. Operations are monitored around the clock by specialists with in-depth knowledge of both the software and the platform. The solution is designed with a focus on high availability, security, scalability, and responsible energy consumption.

Standalone tools. In addition to the Sitemule platform, we offer a range of specialized tools. These include ZipSeries, which supports secure handling, packaging, and distribution of IBM i objects while preserving the platform’s existing object security.
