The Community Edition is freeware and is as such, delivered with a few limitations compared to the Enterprise version - but it can in fact, easily be used in a small production environment.
Applications developed with the Community Edition will at all times be deployed with the source code when moved to other machines with Community Edition installed. So it is fair to say, that the Community Edition appeals more to in-house production environments rather that to commercial developers.
The Community Edition can - in a production environment - be combined with the payable Server and Enterprise editions. But it must always be considered as the lowest common denominator.
